The third UK Cypriot Film Festival

After a memorable event which included coverage on BBC 1's London News and BBC London 94.9 FM we are delighted to present to you the UK's 3rd Cypriot Film Festival.

This year's festival promises to be a jam-packed 3 day event, showcasing a variety of short films, book readings and workshops, not to mention a number of surprises which are not-to-be-missed! The main event will be taking place at the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley over the weekend of the 6th - 8th of March 2009. In addition to this, there will be special screenings at a number of other cinema venues. (For further information, look out for our programme which will be available soon.)

As part of the selection of short films, we are thrilled to be showing the award winning production 'In the Name of Sparrow' by Kyros Papavasiliou, which was screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008. To add to our delight, Kyros will be flying over to join us as our special guest at Sunday's event.

We will also be showcasing several feature films, including, 'Trust Me' by Andrew Kazamia, best known for his role in the highly successful television series, London's Burning and 'A Touch of Spice' by award winning director Tassos Boulmetis. We are also excited to bring back, by popular demand, the feature production 'Akamas' by Panicos Chrysanthou.

The Cypriot film festival UK was founded in 2006 by Simos Panayi to celebrate the diverse Cypriot culture. Through his enthusiasm for event organising, Simos has successfully conveyed and brought together this culture through film and in doing so has introduced many new up and coming film makers.

Andy Hadjidemetriou has now joined the team as co-organiser and looks forward to building on the success of last year. We are proud to continue our support for the nominated charity, The Leukaemia Society (UK) and to welcome the talented television presenter Tonia Buxton from Discovery Channel's 'My Greek Kitchen' as a guest speaker on behalf of the charity.
