Alex Kalymnios

Alex is an award winning shorts writer/director. She has written, directed and produced short films, music videos and various programmes for broadcast television. After working for the BBC for four years, Alex is now a freelance drama director, currently directing on Channel 4’s award winning teen soap ‘Hollyoaks’ and has a range of feature film projects that she is currently developing.

Alex’s passion lies in directing film and she has written and directed six successful short dramas. Alex has a desire for telling unique stories with strong characters that have an alternative take on life.

Alex short film ‘more than a job’s worth’ was awarded funding from the Enfield Film Fund (Film London). The film was accepted by the British Council and was screened at numerous film festivals both nationally and internationally. The film also won the ‘Best New Director Award’ at the Greenwich Film Festival, London 2004 and was nominated for Best Short at the Raindance East Film Festival 2005. The film was also selected to be screened in the shorts programme ‘Strange, you say?’ at the Cannes Film Festival, Short Film Corner 2005. The film was screened on BBC’s programme ‘Homegrown Hollywood’.

Alex’s latest short ‘The Green Fairy’ has recently been selected for The LA International Short Film Festival 2007 and also chosen by the British Council for international representation.

Alex is currently developing a slate of feature film scripts, including a ‘coming of age’ tale set in the North London Greek-Turkish Community, a female psychological thriller and a futuristic love story. Alex is represented by Negeen Yazdi at UK Talent (formerly know as ICM).
