Last year marked the first Cypriot Film Festival in the UK, set up by founder
Simos Panayi bringing the community together through the moving image. Award
winning writer/director Vicki Psarias opened the festival also showcasing her
short films Rifts starring actors Vasilis Panayis and Osman Balikdjioglu
amongst others, as well as a trailer for her latest short film Broken which is
screening at the festival this year. Peter Polycarpou was also on hand to give
a heartfelt opening speech along with Vicki.
Other films which screened at the festival last year were 'I used to live in
Cyprus' by Erim Metto, Non People by Elena Karathanasi, More than a Jobs Worth
by Alex Kalmnios, First Time (Broti Fora) by Averkios Eric Averkiou, Vanity Against Time by Nastazia Metaxa, Elevator
Music by Sedar Ferit and Dear Steven Spielberg by Stefan Georgiou.
An extract from special guest 'Andreas Koumi's book 'The Cypriot' was also read
by actor Andy Lucas followed by a buffet and raffle raising money for the UK
Thalassaemia Society.
